Now David, I know that Viral marketing in itself is not “new”.

Viral marketing is the term first used during the
sale of Hotmail.com to Microsoft. At the time, one
of the corporate advisers on the acquisition
termed Hotmail’s method of including a link to
itself at the end of every email as ‘viral
marketing’.

Another translation could be coined as “the marketing of a site using its members’ own
distribution channels”.

Top Internet Marketing gurus have been using this
method of promotion for several years, The first site i join with the Viral marketing component in it was Mike Chen InstantBuzz back at the end of 2004 if i remember correctly.

But now finally at the beginning of 2006, it was made available to the mass.

So you think that viral marketing was on discovered this year? I would say it has been going for a lot longer than that and people like Mike FIlsaime just keep coming up with a new way to package it.

Thanks for your post on viral marketing. Notice of any of the creative inputs that have viral effects are a most welcome recognition to any publisher as well as good tips for promotion development. I’d like to expand the idea with this old ebook that’s still got some viral life to it.
